Jamie Dawdy Psychotherapy

About Jamie Dawdy, RN, MSc | Nurse Psychotherapist | Creator of the Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™

We often know what we want to change. We may even know what we need to do. So why is intentional change still so difficult to sustain?

This question has shaped my work across public health, psychotherapy, resilience, and supporting people through meaningful periods of change.

Over time, I have noticed a consistent pattern: intentional change is not simply a matter of knowledge, motivation, or willpower. Sustaining change over time depends on the capacities we have and the conditions that make change possible.

As a Nurse Psychotherapist, I provide compassionate, trauma-informed psychotherapy for individuals navigating meaningful periods of change, including challenges related to body image, self-esteem, confidence, self-trust, food and eating, burnout, recovery, and life transitions. I also collaborate with teams and organizations to explore how resilience, psychological capacity, relationships, and environments influence well-being, leadership, and sustainable change.

When we focus only on the visible parts of change—the goals, behaviours, and actions—we can overlook the deeper foundations that support growth and help change endure. Meaningful change is influenced by our ability to regulate, understand our lived experiences and how they've shaped us, build self-trust, clarify our values, take aligned action, and engage with relationships and environments that support growth.

This understanding led me to develop the Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™—a capacity-first framework for understanding how internal capacities and external conditions work together to support intentional, sustainable behaviour change. It represents a synthesis of insights from public health, resilience science, psychotherapy, and lived experience, and offers a practical lens for understanding change across contexts—from personal recovery and well-being to healthcare, education, leadership, and organizational systems.

My psychotherapy practice is grounded in evidence-informed approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed care, and other approaches tailored to each client's goals, strengths, and needs. The Resilience-Inspired Action Framework™ complements this work by providing a broader way of understanding the factors that influence change, while remaining distinct from any single therapeutic modality.

Whether I am working with an individual, facilitating learning with a team, or supporting organizational conversations, my goal is the same: to help people better understand themselves, strengthen their capacity, foster self-trust, and create the conditions that allow meaningful change to take root and endure.

I believe growth is not about fixing who we are or trying harder. It is about developing the capacity, awareness, compassion, and support needed to move forward in ways that are sustainable and aligned with what matters most.

You do not have to navigate change alone.
