Helping Neurodivergent Teens and Young Adults Navigate Life With Confidence

Being a teenager or young adult can be challenging.

Friendships become more complex. Expectations increase. School, work, relationships, emotions, and future plans all start competing for attention at the same time.

For neurodivergent teens and young adults, these experiences can come with additional challenges—but also unique strengths, perspectives, and ways of moving through the world.

I'm Jenny Smith, a Child and Youth Care Practitioner with over 20 years of experience supporting neurodivergent youth and families.

I provide neuro-affirming counselling and group programs that help teens and young adults better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, build confidence, and develop skills that support independence and wellbeing.

Whether we're talking through friendships, emotions, school or work stress, independence, identity, or a difficult season of life, counselling is a space to slow things down, reflect, and move forward in a way that feels manageable and real.

My work is grounded in relationships. I believe meaningful growth happens when young people feel genuinely understood, respected, and connected. When that happens, we can begin to make sense of what feels overwhelming, build on strengths, and develop practical ways to navigate everyday life.

I don't believe in trying to change who someone is.

I believe in helping young people understand themselves more clearly, recognize their strengths, and build tools that help them move through life with more confidence and ease.

Every young person deserves a place where they can show up as themselves and feel supported while they figure things out.

That's what Next Steps Counselling Services is here for.
