Insight-Psychotherapy

Welcome to Insight-Psychotherapy

My name is Sheila Bains, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a background in Early Childhood Education. I provide psychotherapy and counselling services to children, youth, teens, adults, and families. I recognize that the decision to seek support can be a difficult one, but it can also be a meaningful first step toward positive change, whether you’re looking to improve your everyday life, relationships, sense of self, or simply need a safe, supportive space to talk.

Individuals and families seek psychotherapy and counselling services for a multitude of reasons, each deeply personal and unique. I view this process as an investment in your health and overall well-being, one that can foster insight, resilience, and meaningful growth over time.

I specialize in supporting individuals navigating life transitions, as well as those experiencing stress, anxiety, burnout, and trauma. These experiences can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to face them alone. Together, we can explore your challenges, build coping strategies, and work toward a greater sense of balance and understanding.

My approach to counselling begins with creating space to meet with you and discuss the issues you are facing at your own pace. I prioritize a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout your journey. I work collaboratively with my clients to ensure they are fully involved in the therapeutic process, drawing from a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities to best support your unique needs.

This is your journey. Our time together is dedicated to you and guided by what feels most important to you. You are always in control of the direction and focus of each session.

Whether you are seeking support for yourself or a loved one, I am here to walk alongside you on your path toward healing and growth.

Each session is 60-minutes in length at a rate of $150.00. Payment can be made via Interac e-Transfer. An invoice will be sent after session and once payment is received a receipt will be issued.

Counselling and Psychotherapy Services are not covered through OHIP.  Most third-party health insurance plans now cover Registered Psychotherapists. Once payment is received, you will receive an official receipt to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It may be useful to check with your insurance provider prior to the first appointment to determine if coverage for counselling services is included in your plan under Registered Psychotherapist. Psychotherapy receipts that have not been reimbursed by health insurance plans can be used to receive deductions on your taxes.

** Please check with your insurance company to see if this service is covered.

FAQ

What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a talk-based form of therapy. People seek psychotherapy or counselling when their mood, thoughts, feelings, or behaviors begin to interfere with daily life, relationships, or overall well-being. It can support personal growth, positive change, and also provide a safe, supportive space to talk openly.

Is psychotherapy covered by private health benefits?
Some private health benefit or insurance plans cover services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist under extended health benefits. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so it’s recommended that you contact your insurance company directly to confirm eligibility, requirements, and the number of sessions covered.

Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the counselling process. What you share during sessions is kept private to help create a safe and trusting environment. There are a few legal and ethical limits to confidentiality, which can be discussed in more detail if you have questions or concerns.
