See the Spectrum is an educational-based mental health practice which gives parents & caregivers the knowledge they need to parent neurodiverse children. It is our goal to help individuals and families learn the skills they need to thrive in a neurotypical world.
ABOUT ME
My name is Michelle, I am a Registered Social Service Worker through the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am an eligible clinician through the Ontario Autism Coalition under the services of Mental Health.
My approach is through an educational neuro-affirming lens. My goal is to understand the autistic individual and their needs and from there I educate and work with the individual, parents and/or caregivers and other agencies or individuals to provide the information needed to create a thriving environment and the right tools to transition into adulthood.
I gained my perspective and experience from parenting 5 children on the autistic spectrum over the past 19 years of my life. My children range in ages from 9-19 and each have unique presentations of autism and various co-occurring disorders. I am a late-diagnosed AuDHD individual myself and a current graduate student at Lakehead University studying autism and how it impacts motherhood.
Learning is a lifelong process for me; a special interest. I feel confident in expressing that I am always striving to learn new things. Autism and neurodiversity are areas where I spend time learning from peer reviewed journals, personal accounts, books, social media, etc. I also enjoy subjects and areas such as poverty, women issues, mental health, politics, culture and so much more to ensure that I am bringing forth the most relevant information when needed.
