Insurance Receipts & Taxes for Naturopaths, Acupuncturists and Massage Therapists
Many extended health plans reimburse naturopathic medicine, acupuncture and massage therapy, but only when the practitioner is registered with the regulator the insurer recognizes: for example the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario or the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Unregulated modalities such as reiki, reflexology or homeopathy are rarely covered.
What the insurer checks is the receipt: practitioner name, registration number, profession, service, date and amount paid. Colib prints all of it on every insurance receipt, in the client's language, so the client submits it to the insurer directly. Colib does not transmit claims to insurers; the client stays in control of the submission.
Taxes per service and per product
Tax treatment varies by modality and by province: some regulated services are exempt from GST/HST, others are taxable, and supplements, remedies or herbal preparations are almost always taxable. Health history and consent before the first visit
A naturopathic intake is not an acupuncture intake, and neither looks like a massage intake. Build one questionnaire per modality -- health history, current medications and supplements, allergies, contraindications, pregnancy, goals -- and send it automatically when the client books. Informed consent to treatment and, if you offer virtual consultations, telehealth consent are signed online and filed with the questionnaire before the client walks in.
